Why Apply for Grants?

Someone might ask, "Why would you ever apply for a
grant?" It's a lot of work to get the application
together. Then, when you get the funds, you have to keep
records, prove that you've spent the money properly, and
record the results of your grant program. And you're not
guaranteed that those results will always be positive!
So why would you put yourself through this whole process?
The seemingly obvious answer would be, "For the money,
of course."
But don't be to o hasty with that answer. The best,
most
successful grants are not usually written with just the
money in mind. Yes, money helps to move the change
process along, but if your purpose for writing a grant is
truly to better the lives of students and teachers, the
chances of success with your grant program multiply
tremendously.
What are students NOT learning in your school? What
behaviors are they exhibiting that will handicap them
later in life?
Can your students read at grade level? Can they work
math problems so they can make purchases without being
ripped off? Can they speak English well enough to live
productively in American society? Are your teachers
trained well enough to truly educate every child in
their classrooms?
Get passionate! Write grants to change lives.
That passion and determination will come across in your
grant application and will also s how up in the results
you eventually achieve.
Question: Why should you write a grant?
Answer: Yes, for money, but more importantly for the
positive changes you help to make in the lives of
both students and teachers.

Once you have a little experience, write as many grants as you can. Sheer numbers will help you to be successful.

Q. What is it worth to have a professional grant writer to
write a grant for our school?
A. It usually costs somewhere between $1,500 and $7,500,
but it really depends on the grant and the grant writer.
Some grant applications are long and extremely
involved. You may get between $250,000 and $1,000,000
or more in grant money.
Others may be simple and take a minimum of time. You
may only get $500 to $1,000. You'll likely want to
write these yourself.
I recommend that you either work with someone
you know
or get references and talk to satisfied schools who have
had a professional write successful grants for them.
Take as few risks as possible. Make sure that any
grant writer you hire has a successful track record
and wins a high percentage of the grants he/she
writes.
