I'd like to thank you for subscribing to SCHOOL FUNDING NEWSLETTER. I will do my best to make sure your time is well spent in reading it each month. Our main two features will be articles helping you to write better grant applications and the grant sources themselves. I believe you will be pleased with our content.

I spend a huge amount of time on the internet looking for grant sources, and it just confirms my reasons for building The School Funding Center web site. Trying to find grant information can get pretty discouraging. You have to constantly contend with lack of information, dated information, and broken links.

Go to our new site, http://www.schoolfundingcenter.info/

and see how searching for grants should be. If you have not visited since the beginning of September, you're in for a big surprise. It's completely updated and absolutely different from our old site, efundingsolutions.com. Visit now and get your FREE 10-minute search of our entire database. This search does not have sample information. It's the real thing. Again, do it today because it's totally free.

Finding the Funds

by Don Peek

With over 100,000 grants available to schools, it seems as if it would be a snap to get money for your school. It's really not all that bad IF you follow the proper procedures for getting grant money. The first step is matching your school's need with a grantor's criteria.

Obviously, if the granting agency gives money only for math and science programs, and you apply for funds to enhance your physical education program with no tie-ins to math or science, your application is going to be rejected. Unfortunately, the whole process is a little more difficult than that. You have to make sure that the granting agency gives money to schools in your state, with your demographic make-up, with your test scores, etc.

Attention to these details ahead of time can save you hours of application preparation. It is so important, you should do several things to make sure your school does indeed match the criteria.

First, read all information from whatever source you first hear of the grant.

Second, go to their web site (if they have one) and read carefully everything that gives any hints of criteria, obvious or not so obvious..

Third, email, or better yet call, the person in charge of grants at the organization. Discuss your situation, your needs, and their program. This relationship may help you get your grant later.

Finally, once you get the application and begin to fill it out, check once again for criteria that may exclude your school.

The number one reason for grant applications being rejected is that they do not match the funding entity's criteria to begin with. What a waste of time for everyone.

Using The School Funding Center's database at

http://www.schoolfundingcenter.info/ will help you match your needs successfully because we include live links to email and web sites of granting organizations whenever available. We also give address, phone, and fax. In other words, the information is there so you don't waste your time applying for funds for which you don't qualify.

Tips

===========================================================

1. Make sure your needs match the grant source's criteria.

2. Make sure you fill out your application EXACTLY as instructed.

3. Never use a template. Vendors give the same template to everyone. Put things in your own words. Most grant readers spot templates quickly and put them all in the same rejection pile.

Subscriber Feedback

===========================================================

I'm going to ask a very unusual favor of you. Please go to our web site, http://www.schoolfundingcenter.info/ Use the 10-minute free search. You will be able to access our entire database during that 10 minutes with as many searches as you want to make. Look at our sample grants. Our newsletter. All of the different sections.

Then, look at our pricing. See if you think it's reasonable compared to other sources (newsletters, other web sites, etc.) considering 24/7 access, being updated daily, no broken links, yearly subscription, email alerts for new grants, and the wealth of information we make available. Don't forget our unconditional, money-back guarantee.

Then drop me an email at: dpeek@schoolfundingcenter.com. Let me honestly know what you think. I've been getting a lot of positive feedback on our revamped site, but I just want to see what our newsletter readers think. (By the way, if you will write up this short review of our site, I will give you $50 off the subscription price whenever you order.)

Thanks in advance for doing this favor for me.

Q & A

===========================================================

Q. Why don't I already know about all the grants available? It looks as if companies would contact schools and let them know about grant opportunities.

A. Unfortunately, that's just not the case most of the time. Many, many companies and individuals treat their foundations almost as an afterthought. Millions and millions of dollars are available. They just don't get the word out. Many have web sites with the information on them, but how do you know about the web site? Good question. The only way to really find all grant sources available to you is with an interactive database. You put in your criteria. The database gives you the matching results.
