Have you ever failed a class? I'm proud to say I never have, but I'm very sorry to say I've done my share of failing students. But, you say, "You didn't fail them.
They failed themselves." I beg to differ.
I look back at my teaching career, and I shudder to think of the mistakes I made, and the students I let down. My students didn't hate me. Most of them actually liked me, and that just makes it a little bit worse. I should have helped them more. What would it have cost me? Nothing.
Failure, my friends, is much overrated as a learning tool.
The problem is that the students who fail don't usually just fail one class in one semester of one year. Failure is often a pattern for them. But it's a pattern that can be broken in many cases by the caring intervention of a teacher or administrator.
For you, spring break is just past, now present, or in the near future. I urge you to make it your business in the time you have left this semester to make a commitment and help one or two students to turn it around. You don't have to like them or admire them. You just have to care enough to give them the help they need.
Insist that they pass your class. Insist on it! Then pledge to help them pass. You will feel so much better, and they will remember you for caring enough to intervene
and keep them from failing.

Vital Information
by Don Peek
When we created The School Funding Center database, we wanted to make it easy to use and as complete as possible.
One of the ways we do that is to give a website, email address, and phone number whenever possible for every grant we list.
These 3 pieces of information are extremely important to you when you begin to write a grant. I would never even start a grant until I had visited the website of the foundation or the government organization that is sponsoring it. At their website, you usually get lots of detailed information and sometimes you can even download the grant application.
You should also be using the email address and/or the phone number we give. Talk to the person who is responsible for the grant. That person can give you better information and more tips about getting the grant than anyone else.
I prefer the telephone for this. Why? I want to make a very personal connection with this person. I want them to be familiar with me and the school's situation I represent. This is particularly helpful in getting foundation grants, but it's important to make this connection on all grants.
We don't put the website, email address, and phone number of the granting entity just to fill space. Use this information to help you get grants. Make this personal connection, and you'll be awarded 25% more grants because your application will be that much better.
The School Funding Center's database at http://www.schoolfundingcenter.info
will help you match your needs to the grants that are available. We include live links to email and websites of granting organizations whenever available.
Usually address, phone, and/or fax is included.

Tips
===========================================================
1. Don't try to impress grant readers with big words. Be
clear, concise, and to the point.
2. Pick grants that match up well with your situation.
Don't try to force it. Find the right grant.
3. Have very clear in your own mind what you want and need
before you begin to describe it for someone else.
