There's more to being an educator than standing in front of a classroom, instructing your students to learn a new math problem or helping them with a new spelling word.
There are some important questions you should ask yourself.
What monies have been allocated for the upcoming school year? Which programs will the money best serve? Which ones will be cut altogether? How will your students suffer if funding isn't available?
The main question is this: Have you begun searching for the necessary outside funding for that innovative program at your school?
With more than 110,000 grants on The School Funding Center Web site, finding money isn't difficult. Grants are awarded gifts that don't have to be repaid---and gifts that you can't afford to overlook. There are grants that help fund technology education; other grants can give a brand-new twist to a health or physical education program.
What about those budding artists that need some guided direction? There is money available for them, too.
All you have to do is ask yourself some questions. Then let The School Funding Center give you the answers you need.

Which Type Of Grant Best Suits Your Project?
by Jennifer Kellar Erwin
Whether it's the need for funding to plan that perfect program or funds to supply equipment for a new computer lab, there are many types of grants to choose from. Below you'll find some of the most common grants, and the exact purpose each one serves.
Planning grants: If your school is planning a major new program, you may need to spend a good deal of time and money planning its design. Before you can begin writing your proposal, research might be necessary to ensure all areas work efficiently and correctly. Experts may need to be consulted, or other planning activities may need to be conducted.
Seed money or start-up grants: A start-up grant helps a new program in its first few years; in other words, it oversees the "get on your feet" time. These grants usually supply funding for more than one year, and often decrease in amount each year ($50,000 the first year, $25,000 the second year, and $15,000 the last year). With start-up grants, the funder assumes that, over time, other sources will be relied upon to supplement future costs.
Management or technical assistance grants: These grants do not support the mission-related activities of the project.
Instead, they support management or administration, especially with fundraising, marketing, or financial management. For instance, these grants may help pay the salary of a marketing consultant.
Facilities and equipment grants: Sometimes called capital grants, or "bricks-and-mortar" grants, these grants can help your school purchase a physical asset to your program; specifically, a building or computers. Of course, your proposal must be able to make the case that this asset(s) will help serve the students in a greater capacity than if they had to function without it. Keep in mind that when asking for these funds, several things will be considered, including the financial health of your school and/or district. No grantor wants to sink their money into a facility, only to see it close in a few years because of its inability to be maintained.

Q & A
===========================================================
Q. What do funders look for in a proposal? I want our school's proposal to stand apart from all the rest.
A. One way to get noticed is by following the funder's directions to the letter! Yes, funders look for, and expect, clarity and uniqueness in proposals. But not only do they want to ensure the proposed project will meet the students' needs, they want to see that the project focuses on their stated priorities, as well. Some minutia is important, but too much "fluff" can be a turn-off. Make sure to put good writing skills into practice by avoiding typographical and grammatical errors.
