Are you reading our newsletter the way you should? I hope
so, because if you who haven't subscribed to our database
yet, you are going to get a gift if you read this editorial. First, a few words that could be considered an editorial.
From the booming business we have enjoyed lately, I can
tell that times are tough out there for schools where
money is concerned. This has been our busiest year ever,
especially to start the school year. Either budgets are
being cut or you are finding many worthwhile programs
that you want to finance for your students. I just hope
those of you who have subscribed to our database find a
ton of money to take care of those needs. For those of you who have not subscribed, I am going to
give you a day, September 19th, right now, to use our
database for free. Go in, look around, and find as many
grants as you possibly can. I hope that seeing the
potential will make you want to subscribe to our database
so you can really find the grants you need throughout the
year. To get this free gift, go to: www.schoolfundingcenter.com Click on LOGIN up in the upper, left-hand corner. Type in the following: freegift@schoolfundingcenter.com

missed it. Don Peek

WHERE DO I START?
It's extremely important when writing a grant to know
exactly where to start. Let me first tell you where not to
start. It is a mistake to realize one day that your campus
or district does not have enough money for its current
operations and decide to go searching for grant money to
help your financial situation. I'm not going to tell you that you won't find grant money
that way, it's just really backwards to the proper way to
go about finding grant money. You should always begin with a pressing problem or need.
It can be at a classroom, campus, or district level. You
should have plenty of data to convince others that your
need is real and pressing---and that your solution is very
likely to fill the need or correct the problem. It particularly helps if your solution can be tested to
show its effectiveness and can be replicated in other
similar classrooms, campuses, or districts. So, do you have a pressing problem or need? Do you facts
to back up your concerns? Do you have a solution that is
very likely to work if you had sufficient funds to put that
solution in place? Now you are ready to begin the grant-writing process. If
you start in this way, you will find that writing grants is
not that difficult, and you are much more likely to get the
funding that you need. Don Peek

will help you match your needs to the grants that are
available. We include live links to e-mail and Web sites of
granting organizations whenever available.
Usually address, phone, and/or fax is included.

Q & A
===========================================================
Q. Our athletic program needs a fieldhouse and our band
needs uniforms. Any grant money for that?
A: Not really. There are many grants for health related
programs and for arts programs, but there simply is very
little grant money for band uniforms or football programs.
I recommend fund raisers, supportive businesses, or wealthy
community members for that type of money.
