An educational system isn't worth a great deal if it teaches
young people how to make a living but doesn't teach them how
to make a life. - Author Unknown

===========================================================
I'd like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to
all of you. My name is Jennifer Erwin, and I'm the mother
of an 11-year-old boy whose dream is to attend the
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. And my palms
are sweating wondering just who's going to pay for it. Of
course, living in North Carolina for the last 20 years, I'm
an avid Duke fan which makes for some friendly competition
in my house come tournament time.
Friendly competition aside, I want the best for my kid when
it comes to his education. During the last year, I've
discovered there are many, many untapped resources throughout
the country which can help schools improve their programs.
I always knew there was lots of grant money for college
students; I didn't know there was so much available to
schools.
By trade, I'm a newspaper reporter and columnist. By choice,
I'm a parent, and I want the best for my child. Looking
ahead, I want a little reassurance that the college he
chooses has what it takes to give him the quality education
he deserves. I want the school he attends now and the
college he will attend to hire the best teachers, provide
the best programs.
I'm sure you want those same things for your children and
for your school. And The School Funding Center can help you
find those resources easily and affordably. Apply for a
grant today. Whether Duke or UNC-Chapel Hill, the search
will be well worth it.

Grants Can Help Schools Provide Quality Education
by Jennifer Kellar Erwin
When I met Don Peek in August 2004, I was completely
oblivious to the "underground world" of grants. I had
absolutely no idea all the federal, state and foundation
monies ready for the taking to provide much-needed
equipment for individual schools, professional development
programs for entire districts, or individual grants awarded
to deserving students to help them achieve their educational
dreams.
I believe a good education is vital to shaping and
nurturing the lives of the younger generation. The
round-faced youngsters we cherish today will one day be
faced with the responsibility of taking care of us. Now's the
time to properly prepare them for that task.
Summer's here, and it's going to be a long one. Don't wait
another minute before you begin thinking about the monies
that are available for your school. Literally, millions
of dollars are out there, right now, for to help you improve
technology, science, after-school, math, reading, or
special education.
This summer, make a point to inform your school about The
School Funding Center and the opportunities it affords.
We provide this service for the same reason you are an
educator---to help those students get the best possible
education possible.
Think what a $25,000 grant could do for your school.
Funding is available for new computers, arts education, or
drug awareness programs. The possibilities are endless.
Apply for that grant as soon as possible. The children,
your future, might just depend on it.
The School Funding Center's database at
http://www.schoolfundingcenter.info
will help you match your needs to the grants that are
available. We include live links to e-mail and Web sites of
granting organizations whenever available.
Usually, address, phone, and/or fax is included.

Q & A
===========================================================
Q. Is it difficult to get a grant?
A. Actually, not as difficult as you'd think. There are
thousands of private foundations required, by law, to
give away 5 percent of their assets every year to retain
their tax-exempt status. Federal and state programs also
are willing to give grants or other assistance. Thousands
of people apply for and get grants every day.
