Have you started back to school with a zest for educating students?  Many times our attitudes toward students and their learning is as important as what we try to teach them.

Even the dogs and cats we keep around us as pets can sense our attitudes toward them and their behavior.  Does it make any less sense that students would have a natural feel for those attitudes toward them?

Whether you are a principal, teacher, superintendent, or in some other position, make your students feel as welcome at school as possible.  Let them know that the school is there solely for their benefit.  Let them know you are there to help them get the best education possible.

When you give off those vibes, students will easily receive them.  It will make learning easier for them, and it will make your job a whole lot easier, too.

In my years as principal, I'd take a teacher with great attitude over great aptitude any day of the week.  As a higher level administrator, I felt the same way about principals.

You don't have to have the brightest bulb in the school as far as IQ and credentials.  Make sure you are the brightest bulb when it comes to caring and leadership.

Did you know we list over 150 grant sources for grants dealing with character, at-risk, community involvement, volunteerism, and family services?

It's Grant-Writing Time

Okay, you already know that any time is a good time to write a grant for your school.  But if I were picking out possibly the best time to write a grant, it would be at the beginning of the school year.  Here are several reasons why:

1) You have all the data from last school year to determine what problems you had and what needs to be corrected.  Why run the same programs and get the same poor results this year?
If your math program fell further behind, if your reading levels were not up to par, if your minority students did not perform as well as your other students---all of these are reasons to change your programs and apply for grant money to fund them.  And you know if you have these problems by scanning last year's data.

2) More grants are available this time of year than any other.  Fall is when a majority of state and federal grants are announced.  You should be scouring our database to see what grants are newly available at least on a weekly basis.

It's true, many, many grants are available throughout the year, but it is also true that more grants are available in the next month or two than any other time of the year.

3) Once the rush of the first week or two of school is over, you will probably not have as much time as you do right now.  The beginning of school is usually hectic, but get past the first week or two, and blocking out time to write a grant or two will be easier now than later when things begin to pile up.

4) You can apply for grant money for the remainder of the fall semester, the spring semester, or even for next summer.
You will never have as much flexibility as you do in the fall to apply for money, and, yes, there's still time to get money for the fall semester.

I've listed 4 solid reasons that NOW is the time to begin writing grants for your school.  All you need to do now is subscribe to our grant database so you can spend your time writing grants rather than spending your precious time searching aimlessly for the right grants to write.

Q & A
===========================================================
Q. Is getting grant money more trouble than it's worth?

A: It can be if the administration requirements are too
burdensome.  Typically, this is not the case, however,
and getting free money for your school is generally well
   worth the effort.
